ABOUT ME AND MY WORK
My name is Oscar. My “au/rtistic” tinkering began with a deep connection to Lego as a child. I built the thing it was meant to be in a few minutes and then I picked it apart and began trying to build as many other things as possible - I enjoyed the material limitation. In the mid 90’s I discovered photography and during high school, definitely afterwards, I moved on to collage-making (much because I no longer had access to a darkroom), often using cut-ups of my own old photos/prints as pieces. Then I began working and didn’t make a collage or other type of artwork for over 2 decades.
Originals are mainly made using cut outs from physical books, magazines etc. or scans of images from aforementioned books etc. Rarely, but it happens, I use something from the internet that I print and then cut out. I still use a few old images I have taken, but my goal is to do more of that, taking new pictures as well.
The pieces I use are all cut by hand using scissors and occasionally a scalpel. Sometimes I glue everything on one sheet, sometimes I make the collage by layering in the sense that I cut, glue, scan and print a 1st layer that I continue adding pieces to or retouching with a pen, to then scan and print again (2nd layer), adding and creating new layers until I finish. The print “Ians Dream” is a perfect example of this. I also use images and cut-ups of images I myself have created specifically for collage making and some are used in more than one final artwork. I don’t use AI, photoshop or other image software, but I do duplicate some collage-images in the same image, flipping sides or changing angles, as well as “tuning” images before printing the final product using the most basic tools to alter exposure, contrast, saturation and sharpness.
I like colour a lot, but often I end up doing more images as black and white images. The main reason is probably practical; a lot of colour collages, if taken from various books etc., with unique colour gradients, rarely come out well as prints.
PRODUCT INFO
All prints have a white border for easier framing. A4 and A3 formats are printed on matt eggshell white Fabriano 200g craft paper using an Epson ET-8550 printer (6 colours). Smaller formats are printed on the same paper, but 240g. For larger formats please e-mail and we can discuss paper qualities and more. Some images might differ slightly in colour and cropping from how they look on the screen. All formats smaller than A4 as well as custom-cut formats are hand-cut and may differ slightly in paper size and cropping from print to print.
All prints A4 and larger come with a small signed label with my logo that you can attach to the back of the print itself or frame it professionally and stick it on the backside of the frame.
All prints larger than A3 size are printed at Imprenta Nueva Balear (Palma de Mallorca), who have been delivering mesmerising prints since 1916.
I can have the images framed by a trusted artisan framer in the northeast parts of Mallorca as well as one in Dalarna in Sweden, but I’d recommend anyone who wants it shipped to a different country to have it sent in a postal tube as per standard and frame it locally as the costs are very high. I take great care in packing your prints so that they reach you in perfect shape regardless format, price etc.
At the moment I do not sell my originals, but I can customise/personalise images either by printing on coloured paper and/or by adding details (drawing or cut-out pieces) to the print, by hand.
